The stories

Come stay a while. Visit often.

She Stayed

Anna came for two weeks. That was three years ago. A cup of tea gone cold, a book four days into its twelfth page, and an orange cat coming through the gate like he was going somewhere specific.

9 August  ·  mid-afternoon

The Form

The sleeve is wrong and Anna knows why. She knew when she cut it. Two-thirty, the light flattened and white at the edges, the hour before the rain decides whether it's coming.

16 August  ·  early

Thursday Market

Jill, the sun-faded Jeep, and a bolt of indigo that goes blue-green in market light. The village, opened outward for a morning.

30 August  ·  afternoon

The Basket

Chin on the rim, one paw over the edge, a cut pumpkin behind. Coco has found the rattan basket and considers the matter settled.

They arrive by letter first.

Every other Sunday.
